How best to cover a damaged ceiling?
Answers:
I live in my basement and I took white sheets and stapled them to the ceiling and when they get dirty I take them down and wash them and staple them back up chep and you can get them at garage sales for about 50 cents like I did.

Don't understand "dry damp" unless you mean finish has flaked off from being damp, but , now it is dry. Place a scrap piece of lumber across the hole above the ceiling ( two is better). Measure and cut a piece of Sheetrock (drywall) the size of the hole and attach with screws or adhesive. scrape area around the whole and place Sheetrock tape over the cracks, fill in with Sheetrock mud or spackeling material. You can buy a small ceiling repair kit to cover the patch and places that have flaked off

Install a dropped or t-bar ceiling, fairly inexpensive and easy to install. Their are some really nice looking choices to choose from now.
