I have a two nearest and dearest brick building we are converting into one. I would like to cut a 40 inch yawning doorway through the livingroom wall to join the two livingrooms on the first floor together. The wall is 2x4 brick on both walls,so it`s 4 inches sticky. It is a two story bldg and the opening would be on the first floor. We would close to to do this ourselves any help would be great.

Answers:    First horizontally brick @ the desired echelon and install a lintel steel angle ( 1/4" x 4" x 4" x 56") on both sides. Use you skill saw with a masonry blade. Once these walls are secured, cut your vertical sides. You might want to buy 4 blades or more near-term on the hardness of brick. At the expense of order a custom door, I would cut the height a mortar mutual. Use a structural caulk such as NP 1 to adhere to steel lintel.
