Which one is for what purpose - Joint compound, thinset, spackle, plaster, etc?

So many 'names', so several questions


Answers:    Joint compound or sheetrock "mud" is used for seal the joints between pieces of sheetrock. The seam. Also used for covering the nail/screw heads. Thinset is a floor leveler commonly used to even out a subfloor formerly applying tile, vinyl, etc. Spackle...similar to joint compound, but used for small job. Patching nail holes and small cracks contained by drywall is common near spackle. Plaster has several uses. Unless you are planning to finish a wall beside plaster forget it...
Joint compound is used on drywall seams.

Thin set is used to stratum a floor

Spackle is used on a wall to patch small holes before sculpture.

Plaster is used on walls to create a finished wall.
