Answers:
go to home depot or some other store like that and get whatever they say works for re coating your floors. And then in a year or so when the new finish is not ad hearing to the old surface because of contaminated or because you did not abrade the floor you can hire a pro to do it right.

Other answers:
Go to Home Depot. They have a ton of stains and sealers for people like you who are looking to remodel and finish their hardwood floors.

look on-line for a gym floor coating it is a little higher in price but i have been in a house that used that when we redid the floors No scratches and when we built our own home i use some thing else I am SO sorry my floor are two years old and i vacuum all the time to keep all the dust up and not scratch the floors. I am waiting for the day when we re do them and use the stuff they use on gym floors. The only issue with this is the floors may squeak with gym shoes
yes you can get hardwood floor wax at a good hardware store, placed that sell hardwood floors often carry waxes, superstores in the floor cleaning area.
If the floors are true hardwood and not laminate, then at your home improvement store they sell things for this. These include but are not limited to Polyeurethene Sealers, Shalac, and other products that have recently been release which have a low emission by-product.
There are several choices in products, but before you even get to that point, you need to figure out what preparation the floors are going to need. This can range from just a good cleaning to a thorough sanding. Pro's always say to sand first. For one thing, unless you know what kind of finish is there now (varnish? polyurethane? One of the high-tech finishes that have been used in the last 15-20 years?) you won't know whether the new stuff can go on top.

I suggest that you make your first stop in a store that sells hardwood flooring. Tell them your situation, maybe even show them a piece of trim if you can (Is there some molding with the same finish?) and get suggestions from them/

Good luck!
First the floors have to be completely cleaned and probably sanded after that you stain them the shade you want and seal it with polyurethane which you can buy at any hardware store like the Home Depot or Lowes. It is a pain but will look great when you're done. Mopping with lemon oil always makes a hardwood floor look great even if you haven't done the permanent resurfacing.
