Making Faux Panel Wall (Holmes on Homes)?

I know about making a mold and mixing concrete etc. to create faux stone bricks etc.
but I saw this episode on Holmes on Homes, where on earth the contractor had something mixed (looked close to concrete, but I think he said it be tile grout? or I dunno') In the end he concluded up creating a faux stone wall (also all the opening around in the lady's sauna room) He plastered ontop of what looked approaching regular sheet of plywood / wood.
What was it that he used ? And anyone know how its done ? (Without building from single peices)

Answers:    Interesting, I haven't see that episode. I would think because of the moisture it would have need of to be done on cement board not wood. You might try the question on the message boards on www.diynetwork.com to see if someone else saw the episode. You might enjoy better luck.
