what is the best brush to use when varnishing stairs?

Not sure if a regular bristle brush is good or a sponge brush is better.

It is expensive , but its by purdy and its called Ox-o-angular. This brush is very soft and made for oil and varnish finishes. Leaves less brush marks.

just painted my bathroom door and used for the ajm the brush with natural hair bristles and the roller for the dood. It resulted almost the same but i used extra glossy oil paint.
