I just moved to Switzerland, where the power is 220v. I brought along a new 1000 watt transformer so that I can power some of my 110v things. I also brought along a new powerstrip so that I can plug in multiple things at once (keeping under 1000 watts). However, as soon as I plug the powerstrip into the transformer, the circuit in the house trips. I'm not sure why this is happening, as there is nothing plugged into the powerstrip, so there shouldn't be a draw on the power. The powerstrip does have it's own surge protector, rated to something like 2000 watts (not even sure if that's the correct unit of measure).
Ideas? I'd really like to have multiple things plugged into this transformer.
Thanks,
Justin

Well, did you check to make sure you had a step up transformer? If you have a step up/step down transformer, make sure you have the power settings correct.
Also, did you check to make sure the power strip can handle that voltage? I once plugged in a power strip (from USA) to a 220v outlet oversees. I had to throw the strip out since it fried the wires. Why am I telling you this? Although the powerstrip can handle the power rating, it couldn't handle the voltage. I learned the hardway... $50 powerstrip w/ a 25000 Joule rating turned to rubbish.
Best of luck.
