will a 3" concrete slab hold a 2500 gall plastic water tankfull?

Answers:
Ok, take the 2500 gallons of water your going to put in that tank..(we will for the sake of it, consider the entire amount as being filled with water).

Now, a gallon of water weighs 8.34 pounds per gallon.

So, multiplying your 2500 X 8.34 = 20850 pounds.

Now, you take the area of that tank..

(Lets take for a reference point 8 foot tank round)

Then its 3.14 X 4X4 (Thats radius squared) = 50.24 square feet of tank...

Now, divide that by 144 to get square inches and its
50.24 X 144 (square inches in a square foot) = 7234.56

So, we take the 20850 and divide that by 7234.56 = 2.88 pounds per square inch, and that would give you plenty of loading with some extra for the concrete...

That would be in a safe range...(providing it was an 8 foot tank)...

Just some examples...

I wish you well..

That's going to depend on how big the concrete slab is, not just the thickness.

yes, the praying mantis in the suit is correct
no
it should be ok..........yes i reallly think so
oh yes very well
like he said it depends on the demensions of the slab, as well as the demensions of the tank. Another factor is the kind of concrete you used. certain mixes hold more weight than others.
depends.

The slab will need to be backed up by a strong foundation. Plus you'll need rebar. Concrete will crack...that's a certainty.

Concrete by nature is a very brittle substance. It can hold water if it acts as a liner.

By itself it will break. guaranteed.
depends on the ground below the concrete, and if you could, i would go as much as a 6" of concrete
This tank will wiegh 20,750 pounds or more when full! That is a little over 10 tons! Figure out the sq inch base of the water tank and divide that into 20,750...that will give you pounds per sq inch. Call a concrete company, tell them the pounds/sq in, the thickness of the 'crete,' and they will tell you if you have a problem. My guess is probably not if the base is big enough.
