How can I spawn my hardwood floors look better?

I have fir flooring (original from 1913) that be finished about 5 years ago. The previous owners used a Swedish Finish that my dogs own wreaked havoc on. We'd like to label them look better (wax? refinish?) and would like to do it ourselves. What would you suggest?

Get rid of the dogs first, if not your just waisting time and money.
