How do I control the water temp in the shower when you flush the toilet?

When you flush the toilet in our house, the temp in the shower gets really hot from all the cold water flushing the toilet. I am sure there is a way to control this, but I am unsure how. Can you help?

Answers:
It depends on how much money you want to spend. They make something called a Mana-Blok. It basically makes each water related device in your house separate from the others. This way, the same pipe that feeds your shower isn't also feeding your toilet.

The only other way I know to help somewhat is to increase the water pressure in your house. This can be dangerous however, and can cause leaks and damage some appliances if it is turned up too high.

Unfortunately you have the same problem we do.

When you flush a toilet it draws water from the cold water line. This drops the pressure and less cold water flows to the shower so the water gets hotter.

It takes major plumbing changes to fix it. We have learned to live with it.

it depends on the showerheads you have installed in your showers. the newer ones will keep you from getting scalded by adding less hot water to the cold that is being used in another facility.
First, is your house on City water or do you have a Well with a pump that supplies water to the home?

The problem is caused by inadequate pressure in the system, the minimum home pressure should be around 35 lb/sqinch.

If you are on City water, you need to call the water utility and see if they can increase pressure to the line to your home..there could be a blockage or some other problem.

If you are on a Well/Pump you need to have someone check the static pressure of the "pressure tank" its usually a blue cylinderical thing that hangs off the line somewhere in the garage or home. It has a bladder inside and requires a specific pressure against the bladder that is reached by adding air to it. You could do it yourself but there are a number of steps that must be taken first like dpressurizing the complete home water system etc. So better to call a repair person. Use your local yellow pages.
Only way to get around this is install larger supply lines from the cold water line to the shower....the toilet and shower are sharing the same supply line and it isn't big enough. Good luck
Just dont flush while anyone is in the shower.
Its the easiest cheepest way.
All new shower taps are built to prevent this so the real answer is to replace your taps at the shower. This involves opening the wall in the shower (and replacing the tiles or surround to close it again). It is worth fixing but allow yourself lots of time without the shower.
make signs that say " Do not flush, I'm in the shower " and put them by the restrooms !
We have the same problem too but they flush it on purpose. It's getting to be stupid game now. lol
