around 5 - 6 paragraphs... i usually do a paragraph as 100 words or so. but also quality is better than quality! so around 600 words or so... but if you really wanna know how long my essays are... they're usually around 1000 - 1500 words... i think

A standard middle school or high school essay is 5 paragraphs broken down into
1. introduction
2-4. body paragraphy
5. conclusion
An essay can be any length that you wish to make it. Remember not to limit yourself. If you feel you are begining a new topic, start a new paragraph.
I would judge it either by 500 words(short) 1000 word(medium) and 5000+(short novella) though your teacher should be telling you what they expect. good luck
Ask this question under "homework" in education. The length of an average essay depends on your level of education. In Grades 7 - 9 anything between 500 - 1000 should be good. Getting into Grades 10 - 12, aim for 1500+ and 2500 for senior papers. University studies is a whole different story with term papers often exceeding 5000, maybe 10,000 words. Dissertations (PhD)..well the one my dad wrote had a bibliography that was 8 pages long.

As long as it takes the author to illustrate all the essay's points. Essays should be at least 4 paragraphs, but can be many pages long. One paragraph for the introduction, thesis, and essay map. Body paragraphs for each point outlined in the essay map. Finally, one paragraph for the conclusion. Make sure to restate the thesis in the conclusion.
Depending upon tact and skill it's the length of a Phone call to not the smartest of chics in the class but somewhat of a medium between top-brain and the others who can run a short lecture less than 45min. but not more than 45 hrs. And/or one who you think really would know the ropes on that one. - that's what I do.
