I am building a deck for as friend. What is the proper pitch so the rainfall runs away from the house.?
Answers: Don't do it...leave a nail's size between the slats. Normal sun-heat will swell the wood over time and you'll have buckling, even if you use screw (nails were used commonly to hold down deck a long time ago, but screws hold better and are easier to remove should repair or replacement be needed surrounded by the future). Even 'Trex' boards will swell due to heat digestion, hence the need to space them, too. No stipulation to add a 'pitch' when slats own space between them. (By the way, 1/8" pitch per foot = one-and-a-half inches over the 12' size...not good :( unless everyone have 1 leg shorter than the other *smiles* Be sure to use high-quality coated deck screw.
any pitch is a slope away. And it doesn't take much for precipitation. Should be good.
Allow a 1/8 inch per foot slope away from the house for drainage.
i beleive it is 1/4" for every 4'
Unless you are going to put a roof over the deck, nearby should be spacing between the deck boards. This being said, here is no need for any pitch. Many years ago when homes be built with front porches, tongue and groove deck was used. In that shield there be a minor pitch. Build your deck level.
We built our deck smooth and just drilled some small holes to consent to the water run bad, or you could just move some small spaces between the boards.
agree with plain Jane, if you don't check out of a 1/8" gap between the board the will carry swollen one way or another and you will closing up re-doing it
