How do I replace the crankshaft seal on my Murray lawn mower?
Answers:
Take the engine off, if the blade adapter is pressed on, really don't have to worry about burning the seal, but heat it up and melt some candle wax around it, and pop it off.... now remove the sump (has bolts all the way around (get a new oil seal, remove the old one good) pull out the oil seal with a flat head, and install a undamaged new one..... but really it depends with what engine manufaturer it is, they are different. Do get a book on it, haynes is good.

I'm not trying to be smart, but you may find it cheaper to just replace the engine. Small engine repairs can get expensive even if you do the work yourself.

The best answer I can offer is this. Determine which make of engine(i.e Tecumseh, Briggs & Stratton) you have on your mower then go to your local library/dealer and checkout/buy a copy of the appropriate REPAIR manual. These usually contain very thorough step-by-step instructions for this kind of project.
