Push mower 3.5hp Brigg&Stratton, 20 years old, primer bulb needs to be replaced. Part not available. What do?

First off, the parts are out there. Check local landscape supply and mower dealers, I am sure you will find the parts. I recently found carb rebuild kit for (I think) late 70's toro riding mower, at a mom and pop mower dealer and supply store, and those stores always have tons of old parts in stock( sometimes thats all they have lol). Dont be a cheapskate and risk blowing yourself up, find the parts. Usually, when an exact replacement isnt available, there is a part close enough that can be substituted. A good store wont mind opening up a few and finding a close match.

its not a safe to do this. the mower can back fire and start a fire. If you run the mower without the air cleaner it can get dust and trash in the carb. and give you more trouble and mess up the motor. If the primer just crack spread a small amount of rubber silcone on it to seal the crack. You can still fine replacement just have to look on the net.

your bulb my not be available but for about 35.00 update to a newer carb asm,
Buy a new mower. Once those primer bulbs go out forget it.
it will run without the air filter but not sure about the primer bulb
The old metal Briggs carburetors were pretty bad. It's worth the 40-50 bucks to buy a new carb-fuel tank assembly IF the rest of the motor isn't worn out. The new carbs are plastic and simple and work well. If the motor starts right up every time the bottom half is still good and worth repairing. Also replace the tube that runs from the output of the carb to the intake. The metal ones deformed and leaked, the new plastic ones are better.
20 year old mower? You must use it twice a year. You need to run it without an air filter if you can get it started. That way you can put it out of it's misery. Check the want ads. I bet you can get a much newer mower for less than $100.00.
