How to make the perfect yard sale?

Ok, I am going to have a yard sale this summer and I was wondering how to make your yard sale great. I really need to know because I am going to need to know this by next week. Please help!

Answers:
1. Start off organized. Sort all of your items into categories (sort kids' clothes into boy/girl, infant, toddler, etc.). Evaluate every item, and throw away the stuff that is really junk.

2. Buy neon colored price tags at Walmart. Don't price too low, but don't price too high, either. I price everything as I sort.

3. Be ready to display. Boxes DON'T work for display. Get poles to hang things on; have tables, or sawhorses and plywood. Spread things out.

4. Advertise--run an ad in your paper or Shopper's Guide, but make it stand out. Write it in limerick form! Have colorful signs out on the day of your sale.

5. Have sacks ready for your buyers.

6. Have a cooler full of drinks to sell to shoppers.

7. Put a few attractive items out where they are easily seen, and then put many near the back, so shoppers will have to walk through. Label obscure items to shoppers know what they are.

Best of luck!

If you have a Pennysaver in your area I would place an ad or you can place an ad in your local newspaper. Make signs and place your popular items on the table and organize them so they are neat. Or you should place your more popular items furthest away so people have to walk and browse all your items.
hey! you could place an ad! go find a space for newspaper
Post BRIGHT POSTER EASY TO READ (with your address)signs with catch items such as Antiques or such on all the main streets that lead close to your house. Put up notices at local grocery store bulletin boards if they have it. Price nothing have everyone ask how much because then you can wheel & deal. Put some items that are eye catching put up front and like items further back so if they don't find it you can say there is more back here. Start by 8AM on Saturday & Sunday depends on Saturday.

I love yard sales,,,smiles,,, but perfect is subjective.

Consider that it's a gain if you get rid of anything you no longer want, first of all, even if it's pocket change.
Then consider making it an event, soliciting help, inventory, and adding to an assumed crowd, by getting a friend or two, to commit to it with you.

Offer a reasonable start time assuming that the best sales will happen pretty early.

Allow or drinks to prospective customers.

Post flyers, advertise in a local paper, network wit others noting the date, time, some of the STUFF.

Do balloons, crepe streamers, have music playing, make sure you have power available for someone to see if that old boom box really works, be honest, or throw away something that isn't a bargain to anyone.

If its a nice day, just enjoy being in it.

Don't stress about someone wanting your most prized castoff for a quarter less than you are asking, and,,,

Define a quitting time, close it up, take your well earned profit, look at what you don't have to haul back inside, and have fun in the after effects.

Take care of yourself, plan your meals (crock pot, delivered pizza, make ahead sandwiches etc.) Its not so great a day when you are hungry. If you really want to clear your stuff offer a bag sale the last day where they can fill a bag for 1.00 or 2.00. Or make a sign that reads come back for the 20min. bag sale at 4:10pm-4:30pm (at 4:30 hand out ribbon to tie on bag and have them pay for it then.) Price things and have a sign that says make an offer if you please. If you need tables and have sliding closet doors remove them and set on saw horses or an equivalent. If you set up stuff for men to be interested in that will help draw people plus we ladies can have more time to shop. Good Luck, Have fun! connie P.S. I get to do my own sale in about 3 weeks...
