This site has illustration for soldering electronics terminals http://www.mediacollege.com/misc/solder/...
First swot to solder or find someone to teach you how. The one terminal is the shield, ground or "ring" side the other is the hot, signal or "tip" nouns. Looking at the side of the phone jack you will be able to see which is which by looking what connects to the arm that contacts the tip. Some jacks hold a built in switch that open when the plug is inserted and there would be further terminals going to the switch contacts.

Assuming you hold a soldering iron and electronic grade solder (not sour core plumbing solder) strip your wires wrap around terminals for a immobilize mechanical nouns, hold soldering iron UNDER the terminal and add a bit of solder to the tip to capture the heat to verbs, when it gets hot satisfactory the solder will flow and cover the wire. Let cool lacking moving around the wire until you see the solder turn gray, moving it up to that time this will crystallize the solder and the joint will go amiss or be intermittant.
