Is sand and gravel sold by weight? If you need 2 cubic ft, how much do you buy?

Answers:
It is sold by cubic yards, I cubic yard is 81 square feet 4 inches thick. If you need 2 cubic feet just buy 8 bags and take back the bags you don't use. [ Hint check out the price of broken bags usually there half price.]

Other answers:
About a 40 pound bag, depending upon how fine the gravel is. 2 inch gravle will weigh less than 1/2 inch gravel, because of less air space in the larger grind.

Same as coffee. Cans are the same, weight is the same, fine ground settles better. so, less volume, than coarse grind.

Its loaded with a front end loader and the scoop holds a certain cubic foot amount depending on the size the front end loader is using. its not sold by weight or they could add water to make it wet and you would be paying for the moisture and not the sand
Truckloads ARE sold by weight, sort of. A tandem axle dump truck holds 20 tons of gravel. You pay for twenty tons, but it usually weighs more.

If you are buying it by the bag, it will tell you certain dimensions the bag will cover at certain thicknesses. It will not give you cubic dimensions (ex. 1 bag might cover 2 square feet, 2 inches thick. Not much help, unless you can convert)

2 cubic ft is a box 1' 3" x 1' 3" x 1' 3". A box which is 2' x 2' x 2' is 8 cu. ft. Bring your calculator, the sales people at home centers usually don't know Jack.
No it sold by cubic yards usually' Or in bags. Call teh sand abd grvael companies and tell them how much you need and what you intend to use it for. They should be very helpful.
