You will be waiting a long time - ants won't take anything that's not edible.

There is ant bait that appears to be food to the ants. They will take that down to the hole and it will poison the whole colony. But you don't get any big dramatic "boom" with that.
try some sweet and low,,,puor it over their nest,,,add very little water to keep it from blowing away,,,wait a few days,,,no more ants
I read in our local newspaper. that if you plant mint in your garden that ants hate mint but be careful because mint is a aggressive spreadding plant . You could end up with a yard of mint
Boric acid mixed into a sugar and water solution, will slowly kill an ant colony. Drops of the poison should be regularly be placed near their hole every day or even more often. Reapplication is required after any rain. The ants take up the solution and bring it into nest and ants share it. Eventually the whole colony is poisoned.
If you have pets it may not be a good idea if large amunts of the sugar is used. It only requires several dros for each nest hole.
Also, Mix water, with a little chlorox dissolved in it, and paint a thin film of it on the ground around the nest and across any ant trials. the chlorox ( = liquid bleach solution ), destroys their chemical signal trails) This must be done persistantly, day after day
Perhaps renting an ant eater from the nearest zoo might also help. (just kidding).
