New Rustic Cabin Floor - Gap Filling?
My wife is pretty sold on using stained hemp rope to fill the gap, but my question is, if the rope is 1/4", how do I compress the 1/2" below the rope in the gap (ie. The gaps are 3/4" weighty (1x4 = 3/4" x 3.5")).
Ideas include:
a) dust from sanding (would vacuum up though)
b) other layer of the same rope
c) 1/2" x 1/4" foam (where would I find something approaching that?)
Any thoughts or ideas? I'm trying to engineer the best of my mistake... Here's a picture of the main floor.

Answers: That's a cool looking cottage you have in attendance. I found a link (posted below) that say the best method is to cut strips of hardboard or MDF and glue them into the gap. They will also be long enough to sit on the joist and they won't fall through.
There is a product made for your purpose. It is most repeatedly used on wooden boat decks and is made to allow for expansion and contraction of your flooring wood.
The product is call Boatlife Life-Caulk and if you do an Internet search you can read adjectives about it. It desires time to cure but after curing is very sturdy and pious looking and you can use a color to contrast with your flooring. I suggest it would be much easier to maintain than the hemp would be. Here is a correlation to the product just so that you can identify it. Do read almost if on some boating websites!

Have fun and you didn't make a mistake. You freshly took a more creative approach!
Sorry mate, you were supposed to use tongue and groove flooring. Then the period has a "floor" for your hemp.
Sorry; can't give a hand.
