Is crown molding inappropriate for any room?

no its not inappropriate. we've put crown molding in all the rooms of the house taht we are almost finished with.

I'm a contractor I say go for it, It is relativity cheap and it looks really nice when its all up. I think you will like it.

If the walls are not straight and square, you may not be able to use crown moldings. It might be hard to get them to fit flush. It seems that it would be easier to paint the room one color.
A 4" brush with wet tip and just cut in the wall to the ceiling, let the paint run just slightly onto the ceiling so you want see the white ceiling on a colored wall.
there are some really nice moldings you can use you can get many of these by the foot so try a few different ones till you find what you like and what you are trying to say in each room.... oh and paint or stain before you put them up....
you still have to paint the molding, you could end up with the same results. I would try to tape it again. When you apply the tape to the wall unroll two to three feet of tape then stick just about a 1/4" to the top,if it doesn't look good all you need to do is pull the tape off and start over again. after you run one section then gently press the tape down.

Id say go for it, crown mould looks good in any room. If your worried about your painting job paint the crown mould before you put it up and touch up where needed after
