Being a construction professional, I will now answer this question:
1. Hire a General Contractor who specializes in Log Cabins.
2. Go through him to get a design - he will be able to help you in so many respects.
3. Let him build it.
Trust me, a building is a very difficult thing to build yourself, and if you don't even know where to find plans, that tells me that you need a construction professional. Not to put you down, but this isn't like rebuilding a car engine. It's more like building a car.
My husband and I have a construction company, he has 20 years in the field and 12 years experience in log homes. Listen to the guy that said, "hire a professional" he knows what he is talking about. A log home, in no way can be a "weekend warrior" project. Unless you want to end up spending more money in the long run then what it would have probably costed you to hire a professional. If you have no construction experience, then odds are this will happen. Aside from the fact that something of this sort for someone inexperienced can lead to a serious physical injury!
