is the cement behind the drywall seperate or part of teh wall on my inside chimney?

i had some water damage some in from the outside of teh chimney. the problem is when i started to take off the water damaged stuff I exposed which looks like a slab of concrete on the inside of teh chimney inside a bedroom.

WHat should i do? chisel out the cement and put drywall up?

or should i do something totally different.

better not try taking anymore out...it sounds like you are at the original fireplace...there are many things you can do at this point... tiles are nice around the fireplace and would be ideal for a cement surface...try looking at HGTV online they have many fireplace renovations or ask LOWES for advise
