Use hexane or ether in a small amount. But becareful about flamability. Do not sniff ether either, you will have hangover.

Blot up as much as possible using paper towels. Keep in mind that the kerosene will evaporate over time, but you may not want to wait that long.
Use soapy water, using carpet shampoo or Dawn dish washing liquid, and a shop vac. Don't make the carpet too wet - don't soak it. Use only as much water as needed. Keep scrubbing the area and vacuuming. It may take a while and a few cleanings, but it should work.
If the kerosene has a dye in it you may need to use another product to remove the dye.
