How to camouflage burn on carpet?

I dropped the hot iron on a red/rusty colored carpet. I managed to scratch it off but you can still see the shape where the iron burned the carpet. How can I camouflage this?

I thought of intentionally staining it with something but I don't know what. I can't cut it off and replace the carpet, I don't have extra carpet. I've done all the brushing over I could do.

Any advice please?

Answers:
If it is just as shape burned down lower than the rest of the carpet and not a stain, you might be able to blend it by taking a really sharp pair of scissors (like hair trimming scissors) and taper the two levels of carpet together. Sort of like a fade haircut. If it is a stain, you can buy dyes that should match your carpet at either a Home Base type store or a fabric store. Good luck!

Other answers:
put a coffee table over it
put a coffee table over it
Buy a rug! It really is the only choice!
get a super size bandaid from your local shop and cover that carpet stain with it.

should heal itself in a week or two.
Set a table over the burned spot or leave magazines laying around on the floor to decorate.
go hunting shoot a bear, skin it, make it a rug and eihter eat or give your landlord the meat.
How dark is the burn? like is it black or only reddish?
Anyway, trim away as much of the burn as u can without leaving an obvious bald spot. Then cover it with equal amounts of water and glycerine, this will soften the fibres in the carpet. ( for about 2hrs) then rinse with a solution of 3tablespooons of borax (u can get from most hardware shops) and 500ml of water, rub in then blot, keep doing this till mark has gone. Good luck specially if its a rented property.
oooh pick me, pick me!

I have an idea that worked for a small cig. burn. As for how it will work with a large burn, I don't know.

If you can get to the edge of the carpet (you might have to pull back some molding), you can trim little bits off and glue them to the burnt spot with some clear drying glue.

Honestly, you're probably screwed. What you really need is magic; and that stuff is hard to come by.
is there no carpeting int he closet that is the best place to get a patch.. is not you truly have only one choice.. area rug.
Sure you can spare a small piece of replacement carpet taken from a back, far corner of a closet? With a box-cutter (razor) remove the damage and carefully glue in the new piece. Then with a comb, brush the new edges gently together to erase your handi-work! Absolutely no extra carpet? Then go to a carpet store that gives out free sample swatches, and try to match color and texture best you can.
scrub it with a hair brush then put a drop of crazy glue on it and pull the fibers over the burn
