I'd go to Home Depot and ask a salesman! Try where on earth they sell metal piping. You know what though, I hear those poles leave marks/bruises. Also, if you buy your own steel pipe, I don't muse it would be as smooth as the ones you buy already made. OUCH at metal splinters! Maybe there's some kind of sandpaper for smoothing steel pipe? Measure the distance from the ceiling to the floor back hand so they can seize the right size pipe. Make sure you install it on a stud or it will not be sturdy. good luck

You can do to Home Depot if you want, but let me tip off you that the inner wall thickness is not impossible to tell apart and it could snap/bend while you are working the pole for your boyfriend.
