simple set pool pumps?

i have 2 unused simple set pool pumps. I am deciding to use them for my pond. Do they need to be primed. Will they not work in this application since they are above water level in the pond instead of them being below water level when connected to an above ground pool. they worked great when they were connected to the above ground pools. Any tips? thanks

Answers:
Sure, go nuts with them. I suggest, as this is for a pond, you remove the cartridges, they have such a small surface area, they can barely keep the pool they sold with, clear, they wouldn't have a chance in a pond.
Yes, they will need to be primed, as they aren't submersible.

We have in our showroom a simple set pool with a filter on the ground. We attached a fountain to the return line. That little pump pushes the water 8 feet into the air.
They are hefty little pumps and can do a great job of moving your water.
If you want to do filtering, that will be more problematical, as the cartridges in those little guys will tend to be clogged rather swiftly with pond yuck and will require many cleanings in the beginning.

Since gravity won't feed the pump, it will have to be primed.
