how do i replace the existing duct work in my home with brand new ones?
Answers:
its a pain, but you have to measure each duct flex that runs from the duct board from the air return unit to each room vent. they come in 25 foot lengths and you use a special tape that is not cheap to piece them together. most duct board is in pretty good shape and the flex duct to each vent is what gets dirty the most and torn from stuff in the attics. home depot has classes on it on certain days and they can teach you hands on at that store location or you can get a book the sell. you can replace all the flex duct in one day but drink alot of water as the attics are hot and can reach over 160 degrees. the labor is where they get you as the flex duct is pretty cheap. unless your a expert, do one at a time even with all the material bought. take off one flex line and replace wirh a new one. then keep going until you have them all done. if you have to replace any duct board. take it out as careful as possible to use it as a templete to replace. the boards come in four by ten sheets with five in a box. you can buy them seperately. the duct tape is not like the silver tape you use all the time. its glued on one side and you peel the backing off. it runs around 25.00 a roll.

It depends, if you have metal duct don't - get it cleaned. Otherwise, flex duct is OK and easy to install. You need to check the insulation , connections, and so forth. You need to get some good information before you start talk to as many people as you can.
