Answers:
If you mean the Soil Stack, you should see that in your basement or Family room. Normally it is in the Southeast corner of the house or building. It is a cast iron or plastic pipe approx 6 to 8 inches in diameter. If you have ever had ROTO ROOTER to clean out your sewer lines that is the tube that they go to to run the rod line.

In my town there is a mark at the street, in the concrete, to let you know where the sewer drain pipe is. Blue prints might tell you where it should be but here they ask you to call the "Dig Alert" number, some one comes to your house with a metal detector and marks where the pipes and underground wires are.
Probably best to get more information from local officials and your neighbors.
Of course if you're adding on without a permit that might put a cramp in your plans.
Try locating the drain pipes in your existing bathrooms and tracing the shortest and most logical path to the septic vault. It's usually a pipe thats about 4 inches in diameter.

If you cant find it, try your city's building official. The government is usually issued a copy of the plans prior to building a house/building.
If you live on a Slab, there should be a Clean out outside the last Bath room, or the kitchen area- that is the end of the Sewer run- outside a bath in back.

If you have a Basement you will see the drains, under the Bath room-
