What's the best means of access to anchor items to plaster walls?

I've been using the drywall method of drilling a pilot hole, putting a plastic anchor within place, and putting a screw in place.

I call for to place a heavy headboard for our bed surrounded by place and I'm wondering if their are any techniques that might carry a bit of a heavier load.

Should I be going right through the plaster and finding a stud?

(hey ... I ruminate I found my own answer, but I'll throw it out there for confirmation ... thankfulness in advance)

Answers:    If it's really strapping (sounds like it is), you'll want to drill into the stud, not lately hang it on the drywall. Get yourself a stud finder, easy target the wall and drill a pilot hole first.
Yeah, your best bet is hitting a stud. You can buy one of the gizmos with a magnet on a swivel that will update you when you are near the nail for a stud. Then you just drill till you hit the wood, consequently pop the anchor in and you're done.
