will light shine through globes on exterior lights if painted?

My exterior light fixtures are meant to shine downward as well as through the gloges. Is it pheasable to apply paint or a finish to the exterior or the interior of the globes so as to only shine light downward?

Answers:
Yes you can paint the globes - not the bulbs.

Get a heat resistant paint like you would use for a BBQ

It can probably be done, but it's not a good idea. When you block the passage of light through part of the globe, you are creating a surface which will retain a great deal of heat. The heat can degrade the insulation on the wiring in the fixture, and that's a bad thing. You're better off to look for a new fixture which is designed to direct light where you want it.
