where can i get drawings / plans to build a timber dovecote?
Answers:
Im providing some website links that Ive found with some nice plans (the second link shows an extensive list of existing dovecotes, where they are at, history of them, etc)... but you may also want to check with a local 'bird society', or club, if you live in any large metropolitan area. And of course, there is always eBay, lol....

The R.S.P.B. (the bird society) will be able to give you all the help you need.
(Royal Society for the Protection of Birds)
I could draw one for you and explain everything.. It'll take a couple days. I'll do it for free-- and it'd turn out to be a great project for me..
I'm an engineering student and need to construct a wood structured plan...
If not that, home depot has many plans. But then again, probably your best bet is a generic woodshop store. They usually supply many... And if that doesn't work, I suggest a library. Many examples at the least. And if a few blueprints were provided, I'm sure you could check out a book or 2 and draw your own conclusions on how it can be built.
Good Luck to you
