Question in the order of melt gold ingots and silver?
how can i soften my old gold ingots and silver chains down to make nugget or maybe little bar?
Will they melt beside a blowtorch? What would I put them in to unfreeze them. I don't want to have to buy anything. I want to use stuff lay around my garage.
Answers: You can't safely thaw silver or gold lacking a proper crucible. They are inexpensive ceramic cups used in recent times for that purpose. As long as you heat the crucible beside the metal in it. Any other course will cause splatter and is death-defying. Crucibles are available at some craft stores, or where they grant lessons for jewelry fiddling or on line.
You can use a propane torch to thaw either, but once again, by heat the crucible.
If you don't want to do this there are lots pawn shops who will swap your piece for just around anything you want comparable in Price. The karat power must be at least 10 or better or they won't mess with it.
Good luck.
its worth more as jewelry than as a molten puddle of slop.... you don't own anything to get it hot ample to melt .... wager it
There are a lot of reason not to try it. The silver might burn, and the gold might grasp scattered, by evaporation and splattering. A lot of chains are plated, and the plating would be lost, by person diluted into the base metal. Also in attendance are a lot of accident waiting to happen when you use a blowtorch. You could slickly lose a finger from slipping and burning it.
A blow torch, no.
You're looking for about 1500-1700 Deg. F.
An Air-Gas torch at a minimum.
You'd inevitability a special ceramic crucible, near cover.
Not a playground for an amateur.
Just find yourself a reliable fence.
I go through a phase where I be recovering and refining gold and found the plans for a refractory oven call a "flowerpot furnace". It is fired with charcoal and have a hairdryer for an inducer fan. It took me almost 6 tries until I was competent to generate enough warmness to melt gold ingots. The next give somebody the third degree would be, do you have an ingot mold? You not individual need adjectives the equipment to melt the stuff, you requirement to have some agency to mold it.
Melting jewelry and the like will produce really impure bullion, you inevitability to learn how to refine it also.
It be a fun but expensive hobby, I'll stick to panning for genuine gold nugget.
Good luck
