There is really no better way than the way you're comfortable with. You may want to try cordless 1st then graduate your way to the real skilsaws.
put the 2x4 on two wood horses.Hold one side with your hand press down hard and cut with the saw. The kick back occurs mostly when the board is held down too loose or or not supported well and sometimes when the blade is too worn.
Watch where your hands are they'll cut too!.
That would be the best. Just be sure the wood is firmly secured. That will cut down on the kickback.
It kicks back when you cut a crooked cut and jam the blade- by trying to go back straight, take a 2x4 and cut and practice following a straingt line- mark the line, then following it until you get it right. Just keep your leg away from the saw, in other words stand a bit off to the side until you catch on. You have to learn, just be careful. Don't force the saw to much either and make sure you have a sharp blade- it don't hurt as much, lol
when useing a circular saw you can prevent kick back by cutting the line straight.using a speed square, hold on the 2x4,then use that as a guide,by placing the plate of the saw against and following that.
If you are afraid of a tool , this is the time you get hurt. If I were you I would go buy a old fashion hand saw , one with no motor , and use the muscles you have. Good old fashion tools still work and work fine.If you take your time and cut smoothly you will get just as good a cut as with any power tool.
I've got a 18v cordless skil saw that works great. Lock your 2x4 into a workmate and cut away.
