What does "outline planning permission mean"?

How do go about getting outline planning permission and what process does it entail....

Answers:
It usually means that you have been given permission to build a house or houses there, but have not sent in specific plans, often done when someone wants to sell some land, outline planning permission would increase its value as the purchaser would know he could build there, you would have to get full planning permission by sending in the specific plans of the house/s, but it is much easier to get full planning permission when outline permission has been given. You only have to make sure that the buildings you want to put there isn't bigger or more in number than the outline permission allows

Other answers:
It is the type of planning permission which allows you to check with the council as to whether they agree with your proposal of creating a development on a site rather than having to submit detailed plans
