How do you make new wood look antique/distressed?

I have a large piece of old wood that I cut into thirds for shelves for my office. It's about 1.5 inches thick and I want the wood to look distressed where it's been cut with the saw. The wood isn't painted, and I don't want to paint it, I just don't want the fresh cut look on the edges. Thanks for your help!

heres a few tips on antiqueing...sand all rough edges smooth, with a wood burning tool trace the grain in the wood to give it a deeper look, sand lightly with finish grit sand paper, find a stain that you like.. i personally like the golden oak or pine look, its lighter & shows grain detail. after stained you may wanna go over it with a sealer coat to protect from blimishes or spots..
good luck.. remember sand paper comes in a variety of grit, use lighter grit to smooth the wood, heavy grit to take dents or blimishes out.. hope this helps

Gently abuse the wood. Tap on it with a chain, a hammer, gouge it, poke it, stab it, whatever. Strike it hard enough to leave an indention, but not hard enough to break it.
