Wood shake roof?

question for anyone within roofing: what is the difference between roofing a house with asphalt shingle and wood shake (installation specifically)? within otherwords, should i trust a roofer who mainly does asphalt shingle, or should i find a wood shake specialist?

Answers:    If you can, find someone who does greatly of shake.

Wood shake is very different from other forms of roofing. The trait of underlayment (felt and/or iceguard) MUST be much higher, or the roof will be short-lived.

Personally, wood shake is my least possible favorite roofing material, it is after adjectives more biodegradeable than other forms of roofing. Termites, carpenter ants, certain bees, moss, lichen, other fungus, adjectives are quite fond of wood shake. Additionally, it in general requires more routine maintenance than other types of roofs.

Shingle roofing is the easiest form, requires little skill compared to slate, earthenware tile, or shake. Additionally, you really have to see your lapping of the shake so that you snake up with a outstandingly water-tight roof.

Someone who does slate or ceramic tile would be better to use than a shingle roofer, if you are really set on shake. Lapping issues are incredibly similar, and an expert slate or tile roofer shouldn't have too much difficulty picking up the shake and doing a correct job, even if he have never laid one down before.

Shingles also own to be lapped properly, but in the track that they are mass-manufactured, lapping the shingles is ALMOST a brainless pursuit. It doesn't require much thought as to wind and waterflow issues, you in recent times lay the shingles down like the capitalist tells you to. Slate, tile, and shake normally have to be thought something like as you are laying the things. Shingles also seal themselves up a moment or two more than the other types, eventually becoming a nearly continuous piece of membrane (but not quite).
Usually a good roofer is a moral roofer..But you might ask for references or (her or she)..might show you some homes that they own done.. There is a difference in how they are applied..some do them within sections..ours be done one shingle at a time..which costs a little more. They do enjoy to breathe..I would use another product if your roof is shaded by tree overhang.
