Bathroom remodelling: 65" slit. My option?
Now I need to do something in the region of my tub. I have 65" passage (stud to stud, wihtout sheetrock). Most of the tubs are 60 and 66 inches. I won't be able to bring 66" tub upstairs, so my singular option is 60" tub.
But what do I do near remaining 5 inches?... - I need tips :).
Any suggestion is a good one (unless it is "hire a contractor" - a man should built one house within his life time... remodell will do if you own one already..)
Answers: Well you can:
1. put a 5" adjectives ledge within,
2. extend the framing closer to the bath
3. you can center the tub between 2 walls and build it out
4. plane down the frontage of the framing about 3/4" respectively, and install the 66" tub
Frame it out.
Fir it out. In fact beside most fiberglass showers or tubs have a nail flange. When drywall is hung over the flange, it creates a hump. So what I do when I design, is make the wall over adjectives dimension 6', then hold note that the framers fir the wall out 6" on both sides of the tub, 2" or so wider than tub. When the plumber installs the tub, you can put a 1/4" firring strip subsequent to the flange and above the tub. Then when drywall is hung you eliminate the hump. In your bag, you fir it out, it would be 2-1/2" on either side.
Now if is a tub, near no flange, then frame up for a moment pony wall 5" on one side 12" or so taller than the tub and a few inches wider than the tub hang Hardibacker or concrete board and tile it. Then you hold a ledge for shampoo, soap dish, anything.
