where do you learn to make quilts and sew?
I am in Houston...for the people that do this, where did you learn?
Answers:
Alot of times your local fabric store will have classes on that kind of stuff.
Also you could try www.quilts.com and read on the quilters festival right there in Houston. I googled it. I typed in "quilting classes in Houston" and they had a bunch of websites. Hope this helps.
Other answers:
Go to a few local quilting shops and pick up a schedule for beginning classes. Also, sometimes a place like your local YWCA will offer quilting classes. It's a lot of fun and you meet nice people there too. Enjoy! I wish I had the time for it!

i just learned how to sew last month when my mom visited me
it's really not that hard, just learning how to operate the machine is the trickiest part
Some people learn because Mom or Grandma taught them. Don't forget the tx shows sewing with Nancy or Fons and potter. I don't know if there is a JOANNS store where you live but they have classes all the time! I am glad you want to learn I think that is great not enough people today want to do this. I love to sew but I don't know how to do everthing. One of theses days when the kids are older I will take the time to take a class in the mean time I teach myself bu trial and error. don't be afraid to just try.
many community colleges have non-credit courses for lots of special interests. or go to a fabric store, check their bulletin board or ask a sales person about classes. have fun!!
I learn by myself, by trial and error, but you could try a menonite community I don't know if there are any web sites they may have, but a lot of their work is beautiful. Sewing is not one of my preferred hobbies but I like it once in awhile. I learnt how to sew in primary school and my mom, thanks for asking.
There are many quilters guilds in the Greater Houston area. Do a simple web search and you can find them and the ones closest to you. They are a great resource for those interested in getting into quilting.
They typically set up small groups that meet periodically and share information, etc.
