How hot(in fahrenheit) can lightbulb glass get before it cracks/explodes/melts?
Answers:
There is likely to be no heat source in your home hot enough to melt glass (1600F) and certainly not your lighter. Since lightbulb glass is a soda-lime mixture so you may be able to explode it by a sudden temperature change.
Try putting it in the freezer about an hour, then quickly take it over to a large flame; such as that from a gas stove and the lamp will readily burst.
CAUTION: The above is true ONLY of pure vaccuum lamps and NOT gas filled bulbs. If you are unsure, DO NOT attempt.
GAS filled lamps may EXPLODE at as low temperatures as 500F
much cooler than a lighter flame (960F)
