H.V.L.P is "high volume, low pressure"...This type of sprayer is typically used in a controlled spray booth, for trim boards, doors, etc. It is a good unit, but very hard to adjust for the common person. It is for fine finishing and not intended for a big area what-so-ever. They are not commonly used compared to airless sprayers.
Now....overspray is controllable...it has NOTHING to do with the sprayer type, it has to do with the weather conditions and the PREP job done by the person spraying. GO CRAZY on the prep.....cover, seal, and tape anything and everything you dont want painted and you'll have no problem.
on a job, 75% is prep
25% is actual painting
Good luck and go with an airless...they are for a bigger area, usually cost less, and are MUCH easier to use....dont buy a graco though....get a titan from sherwin williams.....

You will have better luck with the "Hige Volume, Low Pressure" sprayer (HVLP). With less air blowing thru it, you get less overspray.

a regular sprayer is mostly used on insides of houses, unless you a professional sprayer like myself.h.v.l.p means high volume low pressure.which means less over-spray.however,you do not want to spay on windy days obviously, because wind carries paint, hope that helps and good luck with your project
