any suggestions on refurbishing old wood floors & tips?

I have a condo w/ wood floors that need to be retouched. Don't have much dough to work with so...guess i will try a stab at doing it myself. Any suggestions would be great.

You can rent floor sanders . They are kinda cumbersome. If the area is small enough you could use like a hand held belt sander on floors. Use even pressure and start in one corner and work your way out. Be sure to wear a mask because the old finish from floors you do not want to breathe in. Vacuum up the room, sweeping is useless, until no dust is anywhere at all. Maybe even air it out for a day.
Choose stain color for floor, apply it with a brush and rub it in with a rag, or use a paint roller with a rag. Let dry. Then paint on the smelly sealer and walla!

I am trying this right now and think it is ok . You can buy stripper solution for wood. It is available in walmart and hardware stores . I think it costs less then $ 10. You have to apply it with a paintbrush and scrape it after 15 -30 min. The instructions are on the lable. This is a not a hard job and I think is better then sanding. Then you can apply minwax polyshades. It is a mix of stain and polyutherene. so 2 steps in one. you might have to apply 2 coats again the instructions are on the lable. THE BEST WAY TO REFINISH WOOD FLOORS IS TO SAND THE FLOORS FIRST. FIND A RENTAL CENTER THAT RENTS FLOOR SANDING MACHINES. THE MACHINE SHOULD HAVE A BAG ATTACHMENT TO COLLECT THE DUST FROM SANDING...OTHERWISE YOU WILL HAVE TO WET MOP THE FLOOR TO REMOVE THE DUST....THIS IS A PAIN...GO TO A HOME CENTER ...DECIDE IF YOU WANT STAIN, VARNISH OR POLYURETHANE....FOLLOW DIRECTIONS FOR YOUR CHOSEN PRODUCT
