growing a garden to relax?
Answers:
Growing just about anything gives you the chance to get away from the rest of the world, and just be with the plants. It really doesn't matter what you grow. My preference is my small orchard. I go out and water each tree each morning, and take the time to look over the leaves, and branches. I spot insect damage, and are able to deal with it immediately(I kill the darn caterpillar).
There is something inherently relaxing about looking after your garden. With plants, you don't generally have a sense of urgency, just a mild urge to help them do better, and a sense of pride and accomplishment when they do.
Gardening causes you to focus on the plants, and their needs, in a slow-paced environment. You feel a sense of being needed, and a sense of fulfillment when the plants succeed. Sound like non-stress parenting?
Good luck.

Grow an herb garden. It's easy and It doesn't take a lot of space, or water. You can find lots of different textures, colors and scents to work with.
I would suggest doing some reading first. Buy some gardening books or magazines.
Find out what zone you are in. What type of soil you have. If you visit a plant nursery, you can easily be overcome with the choice and variety they have, and end up spending too much money. And those plants may now work in your garden.
Sun and shade are equally important, some plants thrive in sun, some in shade.
It seems a lot, but worth making the effort to get that garden of your dreams. You will find out lots of new interesting things, in your travels.
My word to you, Mulch! Mulch! you can never have too much of it. Unless you wish to spend your time out there, pulling weeds.
Learn about annuals, perennials, compost, then go out there and plant to your hearts content.
Nice thing about gardening, is if you make a mistake, it's not that big a deal. You just find a plant that is better suited to that area.
Funny thing is, that some plants will thrive in one part of your garden and not in others. So before it dies, if you can try another location.
Then you can relax.
