I have a window air conditioner could I mount it in an interior wall and vent it into my basement stairwell?
Answers:
Not in an interior wall the a/c will blow hot are into the stairwell as well as water from the condensation process. not a good idea
Other answers:
Aaaahhh...NO! These things put out as much heat out the back (actually more) than they provide cooling out the front. Plus there's the condensation thing going on too. Don't do it.

Window Air Conditioning units are called that for a reason...they are meant to be mounted in a WINDOW. Where is all the water going to go? All over the stairs? Use a fan or get one of the free-standing no-vent portable air conditioners that have a self-contained water compartment. In the long run it will be a lot cheaper than punching a hole in the wall and then replacing the rotted stairs.
not an ac expert but you would have all the heat exhausted going into your basdement and then what about drainage for the condensation.....would not suggest it
no it should be vented out side on an exterior wall
No. The exhaust from the air conditioner is hot and humid, not to mention the condensation. This will cause your flooring to rot out and you will eventually end up in the basement. Heat will also rise back up into the living area and you defeat your purpose.
I would put a fan blowing into the doorway from other rooms that are cooled, or
if the house is yours, cut a hole in the wall after bracing and framing where you want the air conditioner to be.
