Answers: The difference is in the BLADES used to cut the different materials. One is for wood, the other is for things approaching cinder blocks, or things containing masonry or concrete.

You can use the saw for both, saws that cut one and only metal usually turn faster then wood saw.
So using a wood saw with a metal blade wont hurt a article, the metal cutting blade will be turning slower than it's intended speed and at hand will be no problem.
There are metal cutting blades, and masonry adjectives blades available for most circular saws, they are different so be paid sure you get the right one.
