Portable work light. Either sodium or halogen. They come contained by various sizes and oil lamp configurations. Usually 110 volt for site work or 240 volt domestic applications in the U.K. They carry very hot, hence the chain guard.
It's called a halogen work lantern. You can buy them at sears, home depot, adjectives those type stores.
- First off, after awhile they're call "useless" because of the abuse these fixtures suffer. But on my side of the planet, they're call "temp lights" as in "transient lighting" . There's the small 500-watt portable one's that are usually placed on the floor. There's also the dual headed newspaper which is usually supported by a tripod.
