flywheel is loose but motor is humming on garbage disposal?
Answers:
The Set Screw is loose on the motor's shaft, unplug unit disassemble, tighten set screw and should work better, Also small home disposals are relatively cheap, just replace it yourself
Other answers:
Not sure what you mean by flywheel (grinding wheel?). Turn disposal off, then check the underside of the disposal for a hex screw that you can turn with a disposal wrench--then use that, if you have one.
Another strategy is (again, after turning off disposal) to use the end of a broom handle to try and spin the grinding wheel. Often times you can "unstick" it and the problem is solved.
If the grinding wheel turns but the motor is humming you'll probably have to replace the unit. My advice there is to get one the exact same size (and manufacturer if possible); replacing it will then take you less than an hour...
Good luck!

You mean humming but not moving? Ouch, you got a bad motor or motor brushes.
It not new is it?
The flywheel is held onto the motor shaft by a nut and the nut has worked itself loose. The motor shaft has a shoulder that the flywheel lays onto and is then fastened by the nut. More likely than not the shoulder has been chewed up from the flywheel flopping around. You would be better off replacing the unit than trying to repair. If you get the flywheel tightened down it will just come loose again because of the wear of the flywheel and the shoulder of the motor shaft.
You could buy new parts but until it is all said and done you will have about as much tied up in parts and frustrating labor involved as it would cost for a brand new guaranteed unit.
