Me and my friends are making a ping pong table...?
We understand that in attendance will have to be an aimless rectangle base made near some type of 2x2 wood, but our real press is what will the top be made out of?
At first we thought that about 3/4 of an inch or 1 inch of plywood would do, near some type of enamel paint on top. (We are going to spray paint some logos on it then cover it near clear enamel paint).
But now I own seen something call MDF or masonite board... which threw me off. So very soon I have no concept what to get! Help!
Answers: You enjoy three choices: 3/4 " Plywood, MDF or Particle Board. Your past table most expected was made from tiny part board as that is the cheapest to use. As you found out, it does not resembling water, and it does not enjoy a smooth surface. MDF on the other have have a glass smooth surface, will paint great, but it weigh the most (about 75 pounds for a 3/4" sheet). A good class of interior grade hardwood plywood, (make sure it is flat) will work exceptionally capably. I whould use the cheapest hardwood plywood (Birch if possible) as it will give you a flat surface that will purloin paint very ably. Be careful surrounded by your selction of exterior grade construction plywood, as it may not be flat and the crumb will not take the paint as resourcefully.
As far as the construction, you don't have to enjoy a framework for any of the sheet goods. However, you can hold a problem with baggy in the middle of the pool table. This can be efficiently solved by putting runners across the pool table the same mass as your pool table rails. three should do it, and they could be loose or attached to the bottom of the plywood. Plywood would be cheaper. Why spend the money on masonite when you are going to paint it anyway?
Buy a accurate grade of 3/4" or 1" 8x4 plywood. Put angle iron around bottom, paint and it will closing 101 years.
