How do I winterize my dirt basement?

I have a 19th century house built in the year 1800. I have a dirt basement and crawl space. How do I winterize these.

The only way I believe is the professional way, who will seal everything chemically, then lay membranes, and then concrete.

Friend of mine had it done on the cheap, and if forced the moisture up one wall, so she ended up with a stream running across her cellar. House is now unsellable, until she get it dug up, or redone.
Way back in 1800 they sprinkle some salt in the dirt basement to help prevent freezing over from the moisture and constriction. Since your house has lasted over 200 years, I would say it is probable just fine as is in the winter

My only suggestion would be to use fiberglass insulation on the floor and pipe/duct wrap on anything else
