power coming to ceiling light how do you take it to switch?

This is a snap. O.K. work w/me here. You have one wire into the box at the light and are probbally turning it on and off w/a chain, and you want to add a switch. First, shut off the power to the light!. Remove the light and mark on the light which post the white and the back wire was attached. Run a 10 or 12/2/w a ground romax cable (that is the white flat cable that has a bear wire, a wire w/white insulation and another w/black insulation) from the light box to the switch box. Now, at the light box you have two black wires, two white wires and at least one, maybe two bare wires. Strip about an inch and a half of the insulation from all the wires. Using the correct size wire nut (a yellow one) tie a white and a black wire together and wrap it well with electrical tape. Attach all the bare wires to the box. These wires are the ground wires and are never hot. Now screw the remaing white and black wires back on the same posts (on the light) the old wires came of. One of these wires will be the same one you took of. Now, rehang the light.
At the switch box, you have a bare wire, attach it to the box. Strip and place the white wire on one side of the switch (top or bottom) and the Black wire on the other. Turn the switch so the on position is up, and attach the switch on the box, install the cover. Turn the power and Presto! You are now known as Larry Lightbulb! Now go and pour yourself a cold one!

Interesting. I hope this does not mean you intend to attempt this yourself. I have a very bad feeling about this. How the hell do you turn off the ceiling light now???? I have never heard of a ceiling light without a wall switch. Duh.
Something must be missing here in terms of a descriptive.

The power should go to the switch first, then branch off to the light. If you have a pull chain type light, you may have to re-wire it or splice in a switch before it goes to the light.
