Does Barley Straw sink eventually in my Pond?

I am going to buy Barley straw to help combat the green algae that will grow. I plan on just tossing it into the pond and let it float around. I have a small waterfall to help with the circulation/aeration.

Will the barley straw eventually sink because of the water logging or will it always float on the surface? Ideally i want it to reamin on the surface because if it doesnt then i fear it wont get enough oxygen below.
